This year on May 20, from 5:00 am to 2:00 pm CT, hundreds of law enforcement officers from throughout Chicago will stake out 237 Dunkin’ Donuts rooftops to benefit the Law Enforcement Torch Run Supporting Special Olympics Illinois. With approximately 40 more Dunkin’ Donuts locations participating this year, officers hope to top last year’s donation total of $540,000. The event has raised a total of nearly $2.3 million since it began in 2003 at 12 Dunkin’ Donuts locations.
"Cop on a Rooftop is an event we look forward to every year," said Aziz Nathani, a multi-unit franchisee whose restaurants are among the hundreds of Dunkin' Donuts locations that have hosted the event over the years. “It’s a fun and unique way to support Special Olympics athletes and their families, and call attention to the kind of good will police officers bring to our communities every day. We are truly honored to participate."
Cop on a Rooftop Supporting Special Olympics Illinois is an event Special Olympics Athlete Bree Bogucki and her father, also a police officer, look forward to every year. “I think Cop on a Rooftop is a neat fundraiser to show support for Special Olympics and gain attention for cops being on the roof,” says Bree. “Also, it means I get donuts.”
In addition, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan and representatives from Chicago’s major sports teams will be among the special guests who will join police officers and rise to the occasion to show their support.
