The Story Behind Matcha at Dunkin’

The Story Behind Matcha at Dunkin’

Make way for Matcha, Dunkin’ fans! Beginning February 26, Matcha Lattes will officially arrive at participating Dunkin’ restaurants nationwide. Available hot, iced or frozen, our delicious new Matcha Lattes feature high-quality, sweetened Matcha green tea powder blended with your choice of milk. Whether you’re an avid Matcha drinker or are new to the Matcha scene, sipping one of Dunkin’s new Matcha Lattes is the perfect way to recharge and refresh.

Now you may be wondering, “what’s the story behind Matcha at Dunkin’?” So, we sat down with our very own Courtney Anderson, Manager of Beverage R&D here at Dunkin’, for the inside scoop. According to Courtney, the culinary team set their sights on Matcha more than five years ago and have been working on creating the perfect product for our guests ever since.

As compared to traditional green tea, where the tea leaves are steeped or brewed, Matcha is made by stone grinding young green tea leaf buds into a fine powder. Dunkin’s Matcha Lattes feature high-quality Matcha green tea powder, produced in the Nishio region of Aichi prefecture, Japan, where the finest Matcha has been grown for more than 800 years.

Due to high levels of chlorophyll from being shade-grown, the tea leaves used to make Matcha feature an eye-catching green color. The vibrant, natural color of Matcha is not only beautiful, but perfectly matches the iconic brightness and energy that our fans know and love from Dunkin’.

Following a successful test at Dunkin’ restaurants in Springfield, MA, and Phoenix, AZ, this time last year, we were ready to roll out Matcha Lattes to fans nationwide. Be sure to swing by your nearest Dunkin’ next week to give it a try.
