Here in the Dunkin’ Test Kitchen, we are always looks for exciting new ways to delight our guests. This latest culinary innovation was dreamed up back in 2015 when I was thinking about the “mashup” trend we’ve seen in the food industry over the past several years and we were experimenting with new flavor combinations.
“Mashups” are all about taking two great food items and seeing how they can work best together. Our Croissant Donut, for example, is a mashup of two Dunkin’ Donuts favorites– a flaky croissant with our signature glazed donut. It’s a great way of taking two things that taste great on their own, but when you combine them it takes it to a new level.
Our pretzel croissant does just that; it brings the buttery layers of a croissant together with the savory, saltiness of a pretzel. How do we do it? We take croissant dough and finish it just like you would a pretzel, add a little salt and there you have it: a pretzel croissant.
Getting the sandwich just right requires the perfect ingredients. The Pretzel Croissant Breakfast Sandwich features Cherrywood Smoked Bacon, egg and Wisconsin Aged White Cheddar Cheese served on our new pretzel croissant. We recommend pairing it with your morning hot coffee to start your day off right.
