On the heels of the successful launch of Cold Brew coffee in 2016, we crafted a new cold coffee choice in the Dunkin’ Test Kitchen. This month, we’re excited to introduce a unique way to experience Cold Brew coffee with the all new Sweet and Salted Cold Brew!
The idea behind the new Sweet and Salted Cold Brew has been brewing for quite some time. It all started in China. A colleague of ours encountered a sweet and salty coffee beverage while visiting, and my team here in the Dunkin’ Test Kitchen was very intrigued by the flavor combination. It works great in a candy bar after all, so why not a Dunkin’ Donuts coffee beverage?
We played around with different variations of sweet and salty for quite some time. We introduced several Salted Caramel flavored beverages, including hot coffee, macchiatos and hot chocolate, and saw just how much our guests loved the combination of salty and sweet.
After the success of Cold Brew, we experimented with different ways to bring that sweet and salty flavor to our new cold coffee beverage. With Sweet and Salted Cold Brew, we got it just right. The slightly sweet, ultra-smooth flavor of Cold Brew balances the sweet and salty taste perfectly.
So, how is it made? Dunkin’ Donuts’ Cold Brew Coffee is prepared by steeping a special blend of coffee in cold water over an extended period of time to extract a uniquely distinctive flavor from the beans. The longer brewing process provides a rich, ultra-smooth coffee with an inherently sweeter flavor. In our Sweet and Salted Cold Brew, we add liquid sugar cane for a little extra sweetness and top it off with a special, proprietary, salted whipped topping.
And the best part? You can enjoy the Sweet and Salted Cold Brew in different ways. Drink it through the straw without mixing in the salted topping for a stronger coffee taste. Or, stir in the topping for a bit of sweet and salty in every sip!
