The Story Behind our Belgian Waffle Breakfast Sandwich for National Waffle Day

The Story Behind our Belgian Waffle Breakfast Sandwich for National Waffle Day

This Friday is National Waffle Day, and what better way to celebrate than with our newest breakfast sandwich, The Belgian Waffle Breakfast Sandwich. In stores on August 27th, this savory breakfast sandwich features maple sugar bacon, egg and American cheese served between two thick malted Belgian waffles. Sounds amazing, right?

We met with Michael McEwen from the Dunkin’ Test Kitchen to get the story behind this trendy new product. For Michael, he “saw waffles as a sandwich opportunity for Dunkin’.” His team had launched a Belgian Waffle and Maple Sugar Bacon separately in the past, and both products saw success, so it just made sense to combine the two. “Maple was a natural and fitting progression for the waffle sandwich,” said Michael, and we could not agree more!

If you love waffles, then you may have noticed that they have been on trend for some time now, and this has been stretched across product categories. For example, our Waffle Breaded Chicken Tenders, which you may have tried as a part of our Dunkin’ Run menu, are two succulent chicken tenders coated with sweet waffle batter. Be sure to stop into to your local Dunkin’ this Friday and celebrate National Waffle Day the right way with the Belgian Waffle Breakfast Sandwich or our Waffle Breaded Chicken Tenders.
