U.S. Women’s Hockey Captain Meghan Duggan on That Historic Win

Here at Dunkin’, we couldn’t be more thrilled that USA Hockey and the Women's National Team brought home the gold! As the Official Coffee Shop of USA Hockey, we were proud to welcome them home and celebrate their big win at a Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant in NYC earlier this week.

At the event, we also had the chance to sit down with our partner and team captain Meghan Duggan to discuss the team’s historic win and how coffee helped fuel her early mornings, long rides and hard training. Check out what she had to say below:

1. What does it mean to you to have a gold medal?

It’s the greatest honor in the world. No question. It’s an unbelievable feeling. I’m just so proud of the team, and so happy for the whole group after what we’ve been through, how hard we’ve worked, how hard we fought, and what we’ve stood for forever. It’s an honor for us to be able to take this gold medal, bring it home, and share it with everyone that has helped us get to this point.

2. What has this experience taught you?

This experience has taught me so much. I would say the biggest thing is just the “togetherness” of our team, unity, and how much you can accomplish if you stick together. Our team is made up of strong, powerful women that have stuck together through everything – so the importance of that.

3. What are your favorite pre and post workout snacks or competition rituals?

I am a coffee drinker through and through so I do not do anything without coffee.  Pre-game, pre-practice, pre-training, I would say that’s my #1 thing.

4. Has Dunkin’ played a role in your training over the years?

Dunkin’ has played a huge role in my training. I’m a New England girl; I grew up north of Boston. Back when I was 5 years old and going to the rink in the morning, getting a hot chocolate and some Munchkins®, up until now, getting a coffee before I go into training. Dunkin’ has been a big part of my life, and certainly in my preparations and my training throughout the last few years.

5. What does “Brewed For This" mean to you?

To me, “Brewed For This” just means doing everything you can to prepare. It’s the late nights. It’s the early mornings. It’s the long rides, or just the hard training workouts. Being able to do whatever you can to put your team in a position to accomplish it all.

Here at Dunkin’, we are longtime supporters of women’s hockey. In addition to our partnership with USA Hockey and the Women's National Team, we were also the first corporate sponsor of National Women’s Hockey League (NWHL) and continue our support today.
