This year, Dunkin’ introduced the Power Breakfast Sandwich to give guests a new choice to power through their morning and keep them running throughout their day.
You may be wondering, what is the Power Breakfast Sandwich? This new, better-for-you sandwich features a veggie egg white omelet with spinach, peppers and onions, topped with turkey sausage and American cheese and served on a new, thin seeded multigrain sandwich bread. At 370 calories, the Power Breakfast Sandwich is made with eight whole grains, which contribute 20 grams of whole grains, has 24g of protein, and has no artificial flavors or dyes and no high fructose corn syrup.
Here at Dunkin’ we are committed to making it easy for our guests to make the choices that are right for them while eating on the run. That’s why we are continuing to innovate and introduce new and convenient menu items to help guests power through their days. To get more information on this new menu offering, we met with Michael McEwen, Senior Manager of Research and Development in the Dunkin’ Test Kitchen, who worked on creating the Power Breakfast Sandwich. “We are always looking to expand our menu to offer new choices to meet our guests needs and keep them running”, said McEwen.
To develop this product, Michael and his team saw a lot of “opportunity to update and modernize.” With the goal of creating a sandwich with plenty of protein and some better-for-you ingredients, they began the development process by improving our existing veggie egg white omelet, including taking out ingredients that were no longer relevant, and replacing them with ingredients like spinach and olive oil. This new veggie egg white omelet paired with our turkey sausage just needed a better-for-you bread to bring all of these elements together. This lead to the creation of the multigrain sandwich thin, which includes whole wheat, quinoa, chia seeds, flax seeds, sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds. Bringing together the veggie egg white omelet, turkey sausage patty, American cheese and multigrain sandwich bread gave the culinary team exactly what they were looking for: a sandwich with 24g of protein all under 400 calories.
Following the popular Power Breakfast Sandwich, we introduced a new lineup of Dunkin’ bowls, which are now available at participating locations nationwide for a limited time. This new menu offering includes an Egg White Bowl that provides guests another easy way to be a little better. Made with egg whites, spinach, roasted potatoes, cheddar cheese and caramelized onions this bowl delivers 14 grams of lean protein and 250 calories.
