Dunkin' Donuts Names Master Licensee For Quebec

Randolph, Mass. (August 28, 2003) -- Allied Domecq Quick Service Restaurants (ADQSR) today announced that it has reached an agreement granting master licensee rights for Quebec to Alimentation Couche-Tard, Inc. (TSX: ATD.A,ATD.B). The agreement includes a schedule by which Couche-Tard will open 100 new Dunkin' Donuts stores over 5 years, almost doubling the brand's presence in Quebec, currently at 104 stores. Financial terms were not disclosed.

As master licensee, Couche-Tard will act as franchisor in Quebec, and will be responsible for implementing new Dunkin' Donuts site selections, product introductions, marketing and advertising initiatives, and monitoring of brand standards in stores. As master licensee, Couche-Tard can operate stores itself, or sub-franchise stores to third parties.

"Couche-Tard has an impeccable record for customer service and professionalism," said Paul Leech, International Chief Operating Officer for ADQSR. "With 10 current Dunkin' Donuts stores, Couche-Tard is our largest franchisee in the Quebec market. They are leaders in the quick service restaurant category, and they have proven they can take advantage of the strength that our brand name represents."

Quebec has a special place in Dunkin' Donuts history. In 1961, it became home to the first Dunkin' Donuts store outside of the United States. Today, almost one-third of all Dunkin' Donuts stores are located outside of America, totaling more than 1,600 Dunkin' Donuts stores in 28 other nations and territories around the world.

"Innovation and adaptation has been one secret to the success of Dunkin' Donuts in international markets," said Mr. Leech. "We work closely with local licensees to develop and refine our products and stores to fit the culture and preferences of consumers in each area. Our licensees have intimate knowledge of those preferences, and so they play a key role."

ADQSR will continue to have personnel in Quebec to work with Couche-Tard as master licensee. In addition, ADQSR will continue to provide brand services such as store design and new product development.
