Parents are seeking out creative ways to keep their kids entertained. As a father of three, ranging from four to fourteen, Dunkin’ franchisee Matt Cobo understands the challenges parents are facing.
“The reality of this experience has set in, and we know it’s not going anywhere anytime soon,” said Cobo. “Like most parents, we were looking for ways to entertain our kids and bring a little levity to this situation.”
One of Cobo’s restaurant employee’s in Concord, California – Norma Valkenaar – had an idea. She asked Cobo if she could bring home some donuts, frosting and sprinkles for her two nephews, and an idea was born. After seeing the joy the donut decorating kit brought to Norma’s nephews and their friends, Cobo’s Walnut Creek and Concord stores began creating DIY Dunkin' Donut Kits, comprised of donut rings, different types of frosting and a variety of sprinkles, giving kids the opportunity to decorate their own donut creations at home.
To share these kits and spread joy to others, Cobo’s sister began dropping them off at doorsteps of friends and family members for a special donut dash surprise, texting them “You’ve been Dunk’d!” Crew members at all of Cobo’s Dunkin’ restaurants have been encouraged to surprise their family and friends with donut decorating kits drops to spread even more joy from a distance.
“This is our small way of trying to brighten someone’s day,” said Cobo. “The simple joy of getting to create your own donut can make kids light up, and if we can be a part of creating that moment, that makes us happy.”
Dunkin' franchisees across the country have also started to offer donut kits at participating locations. Check with your local Dunkin' to see if they're available near you.
